Reflection Report #3
I. Details of the event/activity
The webinar is entitled, “How to Build and Conceptualize
Logos using Photoshop and Illustrator.” This webinar event was hosted by the
PNEXT Studio from Gordon College. It was held on December 12, 2022 during the
time of 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The webinar’s venue was via google meet and the
guest speaker that discussed the topic was Mr. Dillan B. Labrador.
II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise
to (learnings)
As a
multimedia student, one of the things that I am knowledgeable about and is
willing to learning more about as well is graphics design. This webinar focused
on logos and how to create a concept and idea then turning it into an actual
logo. The speaker gave tips and lessons and how you are going to start making
your logo.
First step is understanding
the need of the client, what the client needs for his business, what the
business is all about or what brand does the client have that they wish to have
a logo for. Next step is conceptualizing, after having an idea from the
client’s brand it is time to making a concept out of the idea you gained from
the knowledge you have on the client. After this, we proceed to chicken
scratch, which is just rough sketches of your ideas and it isn’t meant to look
clean or finished, but rather making quick sketches from what you thought of. Then,
we have the final sketch where we choose what idea we want and polishing up the
sketch a bit. Lastly, is the digital rendition wherein you transfer that idea
to a vector software such as Adobe Illustrator and using the tools there in
order to create your logo.
In this seminar, the speaker
wanted us to experience making concept based on the instructions he provided,
which are using the initials of our name and something that has to do with a
watch or clock. I participated in this activity and was able to use my initials
to turn into a logo that had the clock and the A from my named wrapped around
that clock. He also taught about the use of golden ratio and used my design for
him to try that method because of my simplistic design and roundish shapes that
I used on the sketch.
III. Reflections on possibilities on
implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical
application of learnings)
This
webinar has given me great insight when it comes to logo designing. I am a
amateur designer and I gathered some tips from this webinar on how will you be
able to create a design using what is given to you. I will be able to use those
tips the next time I do some of designing of my own.
He even listed down some freelancing tips and websites
where you can earn money from designing. I am familiar with those sites but are
yet to try them and knowing his experience, I might check it out for myself, to
be inspired from the designs as well as knowing how to earn money with my
designs.
IV. Positive feedback (on the event
organization)
The
webinar is a really enjoyable one because the speaker is engaging with the
audience as well as giving us a fun little activity in order to try out what he
is discussing for the topic. I enjoyed making a logo of my own based on the
instructions he has given as well as seeing the works from the other people in
the seminar. He made it so that you can relate to what he is saying and
understand things better.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be
made/consider for future activities
I guess
the improvement that I seek is that the webinar didn’t focus on just the golden
ratio and took so much of the time of the webinar where there could be more
logo making techniques that could have been discussed.
